Mews Notes from Seven Mile Beach M'E lien Rowland 368-2294

If the summer ikil your lawn looking lik^ a dust howl as does our*, the next two weeks is the time to reseed it generously keeping it moist so that the seed will germinate The folkftving month add fertilizer and if you have much crabgrasa, spray your lawn with a product called ' Halt'’ next spring According to Jim Fisher of Seashore Home Supply, next summer you'll have the Emerald Isle greener with envy • • • LAST WEEK we went to a luncheon at the Golden Inn. We gained 10 pounds on their very special Avocado, stuffed with crabmeat platter. On my right sat Joe (.'unningham of Margate, a

life-long friend of Princess Grace (nee Kelly) of Monaco. He was a guest at her wedding and I asked if he had seen our own glamorous princess during her recent visit to Ocean City. He said, "Yes, and she’s still the unspoiled girl who shelled Jersey peas with me on the same back porch years ago.” ANOTHER GUEST, l-ucille Payne who owned the St. Clair Hotel in Atlantic City for 14 years, was talking about Ireland coffee which was always

served there. The company is sttll the supplier of coffee to Resorts International (300 one-pound bags daily) and fine restaurants along the coast. Bea Ireland of Ventnor owns the company and also Pocono Manor in Pennsylvania. At this point, our extraordinarily beautiful waitress Dorice Bailey who Uvea in Cape May, burst into the conversation saying, “Oh, do you really know Mrs. Ireland? Isn’t she darling?" Seems that Dorice spent her vacation at Pocono Manor this year and greatly admired the elegant Mrs. Ireland, who brought her little dog to the bar each evening for a drink (non-alcoholic we presume).

last WEEK we hjfd as our guests 13-year old twins from England — Kate and Liza Deacon. It was their first visit to America; first ride in a convertible, first ride in a small boat, first visit to a bird sanctuary and first exposure to the hoagie. They must have eaten more than 40 in a

week!

They formed a warm friendship with Stephanie Paulson, the granddaughter of Matt and Drew Woolery of 8523 Third Ave. who was Little Miss Stone Harbor in 1977. She showed them how to ride the waves on rafts — another first. Our television show “Dallas'' appears on British ”telly f ’ too — so

both girls rehitcantly left wearing J.R. T-shirts. • • • I TOOK A friend for a professional visit to Dr. Speer’s office and it was one of September’s ideal days so I sat outside and waited. At noon the carillon of Oar Savior Lutheran Church began to play. Between the warm sun and the beautiful chimes, it was my summer’s moat pleasant hour. The Carillon must be a delight to everyone within hearing distance. • • • IN CASE anyone was worried, as we were, about the fateof the poor dog admitted to the Cape Veterinary Hospital suffering from parvovirus, we called Dr. Vezln’s nurse and she told us the dog was brought in on a Wednesday and died the following Saturday. Remember to keep your pooch on your own property as much as possible. • • • ALMOST EVERYONE in Stone Harbor knows Maggie and Johnny Williams of Corinthian Dr. But did you also know that Johnny is a star in his own right? He is a renowned raconteur as well as being for many years a stellar performer in Philadelphia’s famed Orphes Club. • • • The P. Quillman Kershners U^uill and Fran) of Norristown, Pa. and Vero Beach, Fla. sold their 41’ Egg Harbor motor yacht Franquill two years ago after several years of participating in Stone Harbor Yacht Club affairs. WITH RETIREMENT in mind, they bought a lovely summer-winter home on 75th St. in Avalon. We thought it was such a great idea we sold our beloved Merjere and started renovating an older cottage in Stone Harbor the following year. The Kershners have the ideal family, two sons and two daughters — planned parenthood I think they call it, and the boys, David and ( Freddie, were brought up* to take over the business when Quill retired from the (Page 17 Please)
