STONE HARBOR - Beach Badge supervisor .Charles Rudrauff's Sept. 8 report to borough council revealed an intake of 1129,300 for badges this summer. This represents an $11,000 increase over last year’s proceeds and gives the borough a percentage increase above that of even more populous Ocean City. MAYOR JAMES WOOD Landfill < From Page 1) prevent wastes from contaminating underground water supplies. PARTICULARLY threatened, the association says, are the 1,000 mentally and physically handicapped residents fo.the Woodbine State School, less than a quarter mile from the landfill. It is also pointed out that birds attracted to the site may pose a threat to planes from the adjoining Woodbine Airport. IN ITS PLEA to the state Dept, of Environmental Protection, the association urges that the wastes be handled by the serage treatment plant in Lower Township. The MUA has held that such a plan requires expansion of the Lower Township plant with equipment which would become useless in two years.

who was delighted with the statistics remarked that this amount still doesn't begin to pay .for beachfront maintenance. Asked later about the marked increase, Mr. Rudrauff replied: "The borough was dissatisfied with the increment from beacfi^ badges and asked me to* take charge. I employed beach badge girls We give them a bag of 25 badges at $1.50 each or

$37.50 per bag. This way we have a daily check on the number of badges sold. During the summer season the girls sold $20,000 worth

of badges. "

HE ALSO explained that Avalon and Stone Harbor have a reciprocal agreement — one badge suffices for both com-

munities.

In other business at the Sept. 8 Conrail meeting, action on paving at 2nd

Ave. between 111th and 121 Sts. was deferred pending further exploration of possible state funding. COUNCI LPERSON Dorothea Pfeiffer informed her fellow Council members that a snow fence will be placed on the beach at 106th and 107th Sts. on a trial basis to see how much sand builds up behind it between now and next summer.

THAT HEARING, , one of four in the state set up by Ginman, to obtain public input and reaction to the State Development Guide Plan, drew only 12 people. Hurley said the development of Guide would take freedom of choice out of the hands of the people and the state legislators. The Assemblyman has introduced a bill to reouire the plan be reviewed by the legislature before it takes effect. THE DOCUMENT has been called the first attempt to regulate growth across the state. It separates the entire state into growth, no-growth or limited growth areas. Ginman admitted the meeting at Stockton was poorly publicized. There had been one press release out of the governor’s office in mid-August, his aide said. Hurley also stressed fear the non-attendance at Stockton could be construed as approval of the State Development Guide Plan by default. "If this happens, the result could be a serious blow to government by law in general and to Southern New Jersey's future in particular, he declared.
