This has been another good week for fishing, especially in the Bay. ,A friend of mine figured out that we have had eighteen straight weekends of good weather, and I believe that this season should set some kind of a record on that score. There have been reports of catches both from the Ocean and the Bay, so it’s kind of hard to figure jiat which location is best, but I think the Bay is sort of outweighing the ocean at this point. Bit,I, RFAMFR. of the Villas, was telling me of a trip he made on Frank ('ampagna** boat Fri. when they caught 60 real nice w6akfish fishing off shore from the standpipe in North Cape May. On Saturday a big fleet gathered in this location, and from the noise that was on my CB f’d say they were all catching fish (weakflsh and flounder). Charley Cantz, of Green Creek was telling Andy Grace of big weakfish being right off Town Bank, * so I guess this all ties together. FM.FRY BOWMAN, of the Villas, said he had some terrific, fishing Saturday, but it tapered off Sunday in the location he’s been fishing. Ellery did have one big hit, but he didn’t want me to talk too much about that. Amy Fffron, of Villas, was in Celling me that she had caught 12 big flounder on Cpt. Jack Blake’sWiMwood II down on Somers shoal, and there are reports of big weakfish in the inlets too. OJSI SUNDAY, David •Merry" Jerabek of Del Haven, Dr. Vhaloe Korlait and Bruce Fvans, of the Villas went with me on the Janie T. VII out the Cape May Canal, and headed up ACS Unit’s Horse Show Nears Gate RIO GRANDE - The Horse Show Committee of the Cape May County Unit of The American Cancer Spdiety~has put together final plans for the First Annual Horse Show, scheduled for Oct. 4 & 5 at the Red Cedar Ranch on Delsea Drive, Goshen. towards Bug Light. We left the dock late, about 10:30 a m., to catch the right tide, and I’d 4 made up my mind not to change my fishing plan that day, because Cpt. Mark Elliott on the Gone fhhin has been experiencing his best fishing on the last of the ebb, and first of the flood tide around the "Bug”. WE ARRIVED just in time to see one fellow anchored there and catching weakfish, so we threw our anchor and baited up, using souid and shedder crab as bait. Right on slack water those weakfish really got hungry, and they bit all the way through the flood tide until we finally had to leave them biting at 5 o’clock to come home. When the smoke cleared away we had 27 two to three pound weakfish and nine nice flounders. Bruce Evans got five of those weakfish and one of the fatties, and Jerry and I accounted for the rest. Doc Korlait had some tough luck on the way out when he dropped his rod and reel overboard, and he couldn't seem to get the feel of a trolling rod, which was all we had on the boat Volleyball Team Sign-up Deadline Due CAPE MAY - Teams interested in participating in the Men’s and Women’s Adult Volleyball leagues must submit team raster and league fees by Oct. 13. for him. He was also using suntan lotion, and this doesn’t do too well on bait. IN THE MIDDLE of the week my thoughts strayed down towards Hatteras , way, because it won’t be too long, before we'll be planning our annual fall trip to the outer banks for channel bass, so I called (pt. hill Foster in Nags Head to see how he was making out. Capt. Bill had just gotten a sailfish, and a couple of nice dolphin for his party that day, and he said fall fishing down there looked just as good as it did up here. They’ve had a busy bill fish season all summer in spite of the heat. RIGHT AFTER I got done talking to Captain Bill, my old friend Walt Hendee, of Stone Harbor, called to tell me the canyon was still hot, and that Tommy Wheaton, on the Hot Tuna, had gotten two whites that went 75 and 100 pounds respectively, and a couple of big dolphins. Walt’s getting his boat ready for striper fishing in the rips, and he’s got a supply of pencil *els already. First Win In Tennis The Lower Cape girl’s tennis team captured their first win of the season with a 5-0 drubbing of Bridgeton High school last Tuesday. Valerie Cullen, Lisa Hemingway, Kim Shields, and both doubles teams won. To round out a 1-1 week that saw their record move to 1-3, the Capers lost to a tough Wildwood squad, 4-1. The first doubles team of Janet Williams and Elizabeth Kelly grabbed the sole Lower Cape victory 6-3,6-4. The Tigers continue their season this ^afternoon at 3:30 against Oakrest at the Cape May Tennis Club.
