For years the guiding light of England's Jethro Tull has been vocalist and writer Ian Anderson. Recently, he pulled the ultimate power play bv sacking most of the band That is, it seemed as if Anderson wanted total control. As it is, he brought in ex-Roxy Music keyboardist and violinist Eddie Jobson, and for the first time since their debut album, Jethro Tull isn't the Ian Anderson show. Their new album (Chrysalis) isn't a radical departure from those before it. but it does have » some nice, tastefully subtle arrangements from Job-

son. He's able to add a jazz as well as classical flavor to the material, and his playing is consistently strong. THE GROUP still suffers from over dramatic vocals, but. at least, Jethro Tull sounds enthused. If Jobson remains a member, Jethro Tull should have some bright days ahead of them "Without Radar"
(Polydor) takes awhile to fully appreciate, but given the chahce, it shows The Yachts are a tight, rocking band, with a gilt for singing and writing catchy tunes. Unfortunately. "Without Radar" lacks some of rawness which made their debut a treat, but, all in all, The Yachts are a dynamic band with a good chance of finding fame on our shores.

AT FIRST, DEVO'S "Freedom of Choice” (Warner Brother^) sounded insipid. But, after a few playings, it seems as if Devo stands a good chance of breaking out of cult status and into the hearts of the masses. The major selling point is "Whipit,” which is already picking up substantial airplay on AM radio and in rock discos The avantgarde sounds of DeVo sound a lot better when there's a danceable beat to drive it along. SPLIT ENZ'S early albums were overblown and pretentious, but their new one "True Colors" (A&M) is,full of fine performances and charming material Much of this sounds like latter-day Beatles, mixed with offbeat rhythms and progressions, not unlike Roxy Music. Split Enz is working hard to improve and this record should win over quite a few followers. THE KINGS' "Arc Here" (Elektra) is competent. hard-driving rock. While it probably sounds great in a small club. here, on vinyl, the end result is more often uninspired. Beneath the blandness, of the production seems a talented band trying to get out. Time will tell if The Kings have what it takes. Eye Clinic Screens 159 COURT HOUSE - Ann Fryling, R.N. at Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospilal acclaimed the recent 1980 eye screening “a huge success." In two hours. 159 individuals took advantage of a free eye screening clinic. Five area ophthalmologists, Doctors Joseph Furey, Robert Nunn. Paul Remer, Paul Pettit and Stuart Billig checked people for signs of glaucoma and «other diseases of the eye. They also checked participants for the need to wear glasses or have their present glasses changed.
