State’s' Focus On Tourism
CHERRY HILL - A major three-day conference focuaing on tourism developments in New Jersey has been called by the Governor and the Division of Travel and ’ftxirtsm in conjunction with the Tourism Advisory Council for Oct. 27-29 at the Ojerry Hill Hyatt House here. Designated the “First Governor's Conference on Tourism,” the gathering will underscore recent developments in the tourism industry and review trends, priorities and recommendations for the state. THE CONFERENCE marks the first time that all segments of government and industry have been invited to review the vital role of tourism in New Jersey's economy and discuss comprehensive programs for the 80s. "The conference serves not only as a tool through which participants can learn of tourism developments in New Jersey, but also serves as a meeting place through which their own needs and ideas can be brought to the attention of the government,” notes Steve Richer, acting director of the Division of Travel and Tourism. PARTICIPANTS at the conference will have the opportunity to discuss New Jersey’s progress and potential with representatives frdtn all aspects of the industry. At the opening reception on Monday evening, Oct. 2T, Congressman James Florio (D-NJ) will underscore congressional tourism initiatives and recent transportation developments in the state. The conference will include three optional educational panels on Tuesday, Oct. 28, with speakers covering topics, like packaging, energy and transportation, and publicity and public relations. Also on the program is a "Meet the Government Hour" session designed to better acquaint participants with key government officials. A HIGHLIGHT of the conference will be the Governor’s Reception Tuesday evening, Oct. 28, where Governor Byrne wfl! underscore the importance ACC Sets Fete For Hinman MAYS LANDING - John Hinman, editor of the Mainland Journal for 40 years, will be honored for his service to the community at a reception sponsored by Atlantic Community College Friday. The reception will be held in the Historic Towne of Smithville’s Quail Hill Inn at 6:30 p.m. HINMAN WAS cited for his "dynamic role as a civic leader and newspaperman” by the college’s board of trustees at its September meeting. Seventeen ACC faculty and staff members will be recognized for ten years of service to the college at the reception. Each will be presented with a meritorious certificate and ceramic mug.
