PATTI SUTTON, left, and Uoula Joyce, right, play the part of husband and wife In the Cape May Community Theatre's production of "The Mousetrap". In this scene their new house guest. Michael Murphy, will become deeply involved In this suspense classic.
Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap” Opens In Cape May Revlew*d by Libby Dump Form*! "Well," I Mid to myself Frtdey night of lest, "I simply mutt go out and have some fun." Where to? The theatre, of course. But where? The Cape May City Hell.audltorium where the Cape May Community Theater ts presenting Agatha Chriatie's "The MouseTripl” Yea, of course, indeed yes I settled in with the rest of the first nighters, cosy you know, sitting in that old-fashioned auditorium on a mild
autumn evening.
The lighta went down and the play began. Wonderful set, really depleting the Great Hall at Monkswell Manor, reminiscent of the gracious parlors in many Cape May guest houses where young couples such as MoUie and Giles, played by Patti Sutton and Louis Joyce, offer
hospitality to an assortment of guests.
Not exactly tike these guests, one surely hopes, because there is a MURDERER amongst them! Five gueats, all quite lively types, and Detective Sgt. Trotter, played by Paul Mathis, who has come croes country on skis during a frightful blizzard to warn the guests and trap the murderer, are pitted against one another during this delightful whodunnit. , . , „ . There is a blood curdling scream as the play begins. But all the audience does is chuckle! Oh, there's a connection between a child's murder years * years ago in the neighborhood of Monkswell Manor and one Just yesterday in a nearby town, and as the plot unfolds, even a murder *onstage as the opinionated Mrs. Boyle, played by Pat Ella, is done away with. (Really, she deserved to die,
always being so nasty, nasty to everyone.)
Could the spirited Christopher Wren, a wouldchitect, played by Michael Murphy, be the villain?

„ ..Jchael Murphy, be the villain? Or the pensive Major Metcalf played by Brian Close? Or perhaps it's the urbane Mr. Paravtclnl (David Holzmer) who arrives mysteriously when his car become
stalled in the snowstorm
On the other hand, a man might not necessarily have strangled Mrs. Boyle, you know. It could have been a woman, such as Miss Caswell (Eileen Elia) who is quite self-sufficient and seems capable of such a sinister act. Before the crime is reconstructed and solved in the final momenta, there are lota of intriguing happenstances, lots of suspicious comings and goings through doors and
doorways, and lots of fun for the audiences.
Which is what I started out to find on that Friday night ° f Peter Vernon, who so capably directed the company's performance of "Hot L Baltimore" earlier this year, has
scored a winner. Good show, really, Peetah.
Final performances of "The Mouse Trap are scheduled this Friday and Saturday, October 17 4 18. at 8
