which now covers all students in grades seven through 12. "THIS GIVES the opportunity for training to students who wish to enter tbs vocational technical field to make It their life’s work. This diversifies the opportunities in education available in the county and provides a service which has been sorely needed for many yean. Cape May is also the second county in the state to establish a special sebdoi district to serve handicapped and disadvantaged students.’’ A new Cape May County Special Services school is being constructed at the Crest Haven complex and should be opened sometime in the latter part of fall 1961, they noted. COUNTY GOVERN-
MENT, they continued, is continuing to work "in cooperation and concert” with Atlantic Community College in investigating an expansion of the facilities of a two-year community college in Cape May . Many county residents are commuting to Cumberland and Atlantic Counties to avail themselves of opportunities in higher education. "As this number increases, it becomes more and more apparent that some type of facility should be added in Cape Mayi County to provide these services. A location that is nearby, easy to get to and economical for them to attend will encourage more to partdpate in higher learning,” the candidates said.
Town Hits Library Site Plan
COURT HOUSE - Freeholder candidate Charles Town has scored the incumbent freeholders' plan to build a county library in Lower Township. "They are floating another bond, borrowing more money, at a time when interest rates are again approaching all time highs," the Democratic candidate said. TOWN SAID the $750,000 bond issue could be cut in half with an innovative idea which he described. "Ocean City had the right idea years ago. They put their local library In a very good and very logical spot — at the high school,” he said. "THE LOWER Township High School already has a library and a modest addition to that structure would be an excellent solution in terms of saving money and practicality,” Town added. “Lower Township
residents would have access to a library in their own community and the students at the school would have the benefit of a larger library with many more books,” he said. "THIS IS the kind of solution that takes time to work out but it is the kind of solution Cape May County needs. Our county, as recently pointed out by the media, has already increased its borrowing more than any other county in the state,” Town said. "The library serves a great service to the county residents. I am a member and ' borrowed books frequently when I worked in the Court House area,” he skid. ”1 think expansion of the program is a great idea but we have to be a little more clever than the average county to solve our problems effectively,” he said.
