Unit Opens COURT HOUSE — A Consumer Affairs Office has opened in Cape May County. Directed by Mark Diedrich, the new service was established to assist and advise county residents with consumer complaints. The new office will investigate consumer problems, enforce violations of consumer laws, act on the consumer’s behalf if there has been a violation, and a.swer consumer questions about legal rights. The office will also conduct spot checks of businessess, throughout the county, and provide consumer education speaking services before clubs and organizations. The office won’t handle every kind of complaint, but will act as a referral agency for the consumer of problems not within its jurisdiction. Mr. Diedrich is available thru the Cape May County Office of Consumer Affairs, 465-7111 ext. 399. New Dune Will Cost Million S. CAPE MAY - A *750,000 offer to rebuild the heavily damaged sand dune here has been initially rejected by Lower Township Mayor Tom Gydesdale who is still looking to the day when the state acquires the beach and meadow behind it fora park. But in the meantime, the mayor has sought federal and/or sthte funds for emergency repair of the, badly eroded dune, breached in numerous places during the Oct.25storm. After the storm tides battered the dune down, millions of gallons of sea water quickly flooded into rural low-lying sections of the township qnd built-up adjacent areas of neighboring West Cape May. The most severely eroded portions of the dune are along the Cape May City-Lower Township beachfront boundary, about midway along the dune between the city and Cape May Point, and further westward along the sand barrier toward the point. THE FLATTENED DUNE HAS LEFT Cape May City's western flank and, in particular, the Fow Tracf and nearby lowlying sections of West Cape May susceptible to flooding from even the slightest storm or higher than ususal tide. And especially concerned West Cape May Mayor Jack Vasser prevailed upon his township counterpart to contact authorities for emergency dune repairs, and Mr. Gydesdale quickly responded with formal letters to Congressman Bill Hughes, Gov. Brendan Byrne and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. As of Monday, he hadn’t received any replies. (Page 3 Please)
