Jr. Miss Entrants Sign Up

CAPE MAY - Several standout members of Cape May County High School Class of 1981 are among the early entries in the County Junior Miss Pageant, the preliminary for America's Junior Miss Pageant. The Junior Miss hopefuls who will participate in the program to select and honor the county's outstanding high school girls of the year was announced today by Terry Brown, coordinator of the Cape May program. THEY INCLUDE: from Lower Cape May Regional Barb Bakley, Bettye Anne Riddle, Ruth Ann Kanady, Michelle March, Sharon Luck and Sandra Boyt. From Middle Township Debbie A dens and Connie Sim merman. From Ocean City Stephanie Sherby and Sue Mimnagh. The County Pageant will be held Nov. 29, in Convention Hall sponsored by

the city Department of Public Relations and Recreation and the Junior Miss Pageant Committee. Serving on the committee are Mitzi Blomkvest, Terry Brown, Ted and Rose Dickinson, and Stina Heminway, Debbie Proud, Cfcfebie Schellninger and Robert and Suzanne Smeltzer. "JUNIOR MISS." one of the country's most respected youth activities, is not a beauty contest in the usual sense of the word and it is not a popularity contest or talent show. Junior Misses are representative girls, all around individuals with intelligence, character, poise, concern and hope for the future. The local winner will advance to the State Junior Miss Pageant, scheduled for January 1981 in Cherry Hill. The state winner will represent the state of New

AVAIyON - The ghosts and goblins took over Community Hall on October 30 during a party sponsored by the Avalon Recreation Dept, under the watchful eye of recreation director David Haberle. Over 120 youngsters, ages pre-school through sixth grade, paraded in costume, played games and downed juice and cookies. Prizes were awarded to the youngsters in three categories - Most Original, Scariest. Fun niest — and four age groups; Pre-School-K - (tied) Steve Sylvester (Fruit of the Loom Grapes), and Erin and Merry Jones (Decorated Gifts); Donna Miller. (Witch); Amy Demire (Tramp. 1st & 2nd Grade — Burt Burton (Spaceman); Scott Soens (Bat); Jason Phillips ( Hillbilly). :trd & tth Grade — Gabrielle Bossuyt (Sunflower). Joseph Quinn (Frankenstein); Dana Erskin (Tweety pie) 5th & 6th Grade - Abbi Fagan (Robin- Hood); Nicole Helverson (Witch); David Gorelich (Female Impersonator) There was a Halloween dance for the seventh thru high school young people on Friday night, and there will be a Harvest Ball for adults 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Nov 8.
