Coast Guard Has Own Troubles Newspaper Club Learns From Pros

SEA ISLE CITY - The U S Coast Guard is having its own trouble* with the sea. The Coast Guard is seeking a Department of the Army permit for work

to eliminate the threat of collapse of waterfront structures at the Townsend Inlet Station. The work includes installation of guide piles and

two floating docks in Ludlam Thorofare at 82nd St. here. Plans also provide for the removal of an existing marine railway and associated piers and dolphins.

The Lower Cape May Regional Newspaper Club journeyed to Caldwell College in North Jersey early one morning recently. Along with many other students from high

schools and clubs, the Regional representatives were there to participate in a communications conference. A different skill was highlighted in each class

including news writing, copy editing, editorials, features, headlining, layout, year book, photediting, cartooning, and newspaper critique. IN THE newswriting class, the instructor mentioned a little hit about herself, then asked the students what she had said. After they responded, she said all she liad mentioned was a lie. Don’t believe everything you hear was the point. Classes followed no particular order, and headed in all directions. An assignment and a question session were part of each class. THERE,, WERE also talks and ' question and answer sessions led by experienced communications personalities, including John Kane of Shadow Traffic, and John and Nancy Hamilton of WPIX Television. Kane told students school was very important to getting i. job ■ in communications, but that it wasn’t enough. He emphasized involvement in extracurricular activities. Hamilton noted that producing a television program is a team effort requiring prior experience. John Hamilton stressed students should read a lot and keep up wiht their studies. —Keith Wm. Forrest
