CAPE MAY - Some 50 firetnen from three departments fought a 40 mph northwest wind and a fire with a headstart early Tuesday morning which destroyed a large summer home two blocks from the beachfront here. According to Fire Chief Wister Dougherty, the fire had probably burned undetected for quite a while before the 1:45 a.m. alarm. Tlie blare which may have begun in a space heater, burned out the living room and foyer floors, the flames fanned through a large open area beneath the 2Mi

Cape May Point volunteers also aided the local firefighters while firement from Town Bank stood by. The fire wasn't "closed out" until 6:30 a.m. The home is owned by Chase Ridgely and was last occupied this past weekend.
