Tigers’ Tune Two to go For G.A,L.
Pa R e2S
BUENA — Another team effort took the Lower Cape May Football Team closer to its first-ever C.A.L. title as the Caper Tigers downed host Buena 1614 Saturday on the loser’s field Junior defensive back Chris Simonsen garnered his fourth Interception of the year snaring a Chief’s pass that set the stage for the Tiger’s final scoring play. THE GAME winning T.D. Itself was another example of team play; senior Steve Carty carrying the ball for a half dozen consecutive plays, getting the pigskin to the one-yard line, from where quarterback Clark La re followed center Joe DtGillio into paydirt. It was a Lare-to-Scott Lewis pass that began the Caper scoring effort in the first quarter. Then the magic toe of Scott Hiller provided the extra point Hunting From Crops a No-No The state Div. of Fish, Game, and Wildlife reminds Jersey hunters that it is illegal to hunt in standing crops. Hunters oust respect pHvate prop<. ty. including crops, to maintain good landowner sportsman relationships, notes the state division.
Hiller, who many believe must have a gun sight on his thigh, boomed a 44-yd. field goal to make it 1(H). A FUMBLE by Tiger Mike Craig (perhaps thinking about his earlier 60-yd. punt return that was called back) was scooped up by Buena’s A1 Hannah, and a John Gark kick quickly brought the Chief’s back into the game, 10-7 at the half. Defensively, the Chiefs were annoying but the Tigers were devastating. A score card wasn’t necessary to keep track of Buena's first down, they were so few. The close score came about in the final minute of play when the Buena-men got fancy and used a flipback play following the pass to gain a big-yardage T.D. with 10 seconds remaining. The extra point made the Chiefs’ first loss in seven years to the Capers more respectable. NEXT WEEK’S penultimate Caper contest is homecoming for the Tigers who will be up against a hapless (helpless) Pleasantville. The Greyhounds have been riddled with injuries and haven’t even suited up the last three games, leaving them with a 1-6 record including the forfeits. A Tiger win Saturday will assure the 7-0 Garrison group at least a tie for the C.A.L. crown.
