MUA Innovation Rewarded by EPA

SWAINTON - The Cepe Mav County Municipal Utilities Authority has been advised by the Federal Environmental Protection Agency that the mechanical composting system to be constructed at the site of its proposed facility north of the Racquet club in Middle Township has been approved as innoviative in nature and therefore eligible for additional grant funding « "These are added grant funds." MUA chairman John Vinci noted, "given to this Authority because, we are advancing innovative technology in the design of our sludge treatment

process. It represents an additional 10 per cent in EPA funds. Instead of the usual 75 per cent federal funding, the MUA will receive 85 per cent for sludge related facilities.’’ MUA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, explained the long-range implications. "The 85 per cent funding level will be available for the design and construction of all sludge handling and treatment facilities to be incorporated in the four regional plants proposed for Cape May County Since these components of a wastewater treatment plant account for approximately one-third of the total cost of the facility,

potential for additional funding is indeed significant." An immediate result came in the announcement of a $625,455 grant for the sludge related facilities currently under construction in the Ocean City

Region.

THE AUTHORITY has also voted to pay the City of Cards Mon. COURT HOUSE - American Legion Auxiliary Unit 198 will conduct a card party at the Post Home, Hand Ave. and Dias Creek Rd. at the noon Nov. 17. Thepublic is invited.
