Mental Health Facility Opened
For Resubmission
COURT HOUSE - Mental Health Services of Cape May County marked the completion of its new building for day treatment with an open house at its Crest Haven Road Complex here on Nov. 14. The new facility was financed by state and county grants. The state awarded Mental Health Services a 150,000 grant from bond issue funds similar to those just approved in the Nov. 4 election. The Cape May County freeholders supplied a $5,000 matching grant.

VILLAS — Continuation of revised plans for the creation of a community-based health center serving the county's four southernmost municipalities received the general acceptance of the mayors and members of the Community Health Council of Lower Cape May County during a meeting here Monday. "I think we had a good meeting today." commented outgoing council chairman Joseph Ward after the round table session in Lower Township Hall Monday afternoon. Ward is stepping aside, being succeeded as chairman by township planning aide Joseph Zahora, who has spent the past year and a half putting together the council’s application for a clinid serving the township and three Cape Mays. ZAHORA REPORTED TO THE mayors and council members Monday on the status of the application, noting how it has been or is being updated in the hopes of satisfying criteria by the Southern New Jersey Health Systems Agency Review Committee. Zahora hopes to have the revised application completed before the end of this year. According to council secretarytreasurer Frank Hesel, Zahora has updated the application to obviate short-
comings and problems with the document which became evident, during a USA Review Committee meeting earlier this year. Zahora withdrew the application at the time rather than face a possible "non endorsement” by the review agency THE FUNDING REQUEST IN THE revised application has reportedly been reduced about one-third, down to $140,000. by reducing by five the number of proposed clinic personnel Other problem areas have also been attended too. ac cording to Hesel. High School Attendance Dropping by John Wade ERMA — A substantial drop in attendance at Lower Cape May Regional, High School was revealed during Thursday night’s meeting of the Board of Education. According to district superintendent E.R. Keller, the biggest percentage decrease has occurred with students participating in the shared-time program at the county Vocational-Technical Center. Attendance dropped over 7 per cent — from just under 89 per cent attendance last year to under 82 per cent this year. REGULAR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS' attendance dropped slightly — down one per cent from last year’s 90 per cent figure. Board member Stephan Todd expressed deep concern about declining attendance and he questioned Keller on what steps are being taken to improve it. The superintendent replied there is acontinuingpolicy of phoning parents of absent students, and of suing parents of truant students under 16 or younger. ACCORDING TO KELLER, the school administration is hampered by state court rulings and statutes against more severe (Rags 3 Pleats)
