Everybody on the island likes Ben Bartley of 88th and 3rd Aves. but ‘‘Somebody Up There Loves Him.” On Oct. 25 he had driven to Cape May Court House in a driving rain to get building supplies and when he got home he found it surrounded by a foot and a half of water. He removed his shoes and socks and started to enter the house. He was troubled by a tingling sensation in his legs. Realizing that it was caused by electricity, he hastily moved to unplug an electric power saw and POW he was thrown two f ect into the air and landed screaming on his back onable to release the power inefrom his hand. Happily, he is an unusually strong man and managed to lunge free of the wire. He had been yelling for someone to help him, but, fortunately, nobody did. According to Mike Mills, the C.M.C.H. electrician, the power going through Ben’s body would have intensified and killed any would-be rescuer. Ben is now a wiser but still severely shaken man. • • • We were surprised to find* Glenn Townley, S.H. Chamber of Commerce President on the beach at 122nd St. flying the radiocontrolled airplane which he built himself. Very proficient he is too — barrel rolls, wingovers, the works. Since he is a licensed pilot, we shouldn't have been surprised and he says his wife prefers this hobby to the real thing. He also told us that this is the fastest growing sport in America. DAVE HABERLE, Avalon’s personable and darned efficient director of recreation, told boro officials that his highly successful roller-skating parties has resumed at Community Hall and will continue 7 to 9 every other Wednesday evening. No admission is charged; rental fee for skates is 12.50 per evening. We talked to Dave recently, and he is particularly pleased that Mayor Armacost has volunteered use of his yellow station wagon when needed.

We want to take this opportunity to thank our reader from Scotch Bonnet on Stone Harbor Blvd. for calling and suggesting that we take pictures there of the damage wrought by the Oct. 25 storm.
We didn’t have time to tell her that our house was surrounded by 18 inches of water and the only way we could have reached her was by boat.
We’re happy to report we were very lucky. The water put out the gas heater and our crawl space is now known affectionately as "Lake Rowland” but the water only got into the downstairs bathroom and we just lost our firewood and a clothes-pin bag. However, as catcher "Boonie” said to Tug McGraw — exciting wasn’t It?
