Sal Barbo Barbo Marks Dozen Years On Local Radio WILDWOOD - Sal Barbo celebrated a milestone in radio last Sunday nite, as he completed his 12th year of regular broadcasting of his "Great Moments in Opera" radio program over WCMC, here. A widely known operatic tenor in his own right Mr. Barbo has been bringing classical music to the Jersey Cape airwaves fora dozen years, he was honored at a party,given in his radio studio on Sunday Evening. Barbo is a popular favorite in the Cape May County Summer Concert scene, presenting concerts in Cape May, Sea Isle City and at Cape May County Park. His rich tenor voice has continually brought him allocades from South Jersey audiences. Sal Barbo’s radio program, "Great Moments in Opera" is heard each Sunday on WCMC (1230 AM. 100.7 FM) from 6 to 7 p.m. Alliger And Big Ban'd Sounds Move AVALON - One of the Jersey Cape’s most popular radio programs moves to a new time and station, effective Nov. 22 when Dick Alliger's "Make Believe Ballroom” begins broadcasting Nov. on WWOC-FM 94. each Saturday evening from 8:)5p.m. to midnight. "The Make Believe Ballroom" features the music of the big bandsGlenn Miller Benny Goodman, Vaughn Monroe and all of the famous (and not so famous) big bands of the late 1930s and 1940s. Dick Alliger, a big band ‘buff for many years, is also a radio veteran, having started in broadcasting in 1947. At one time in the early 1950s, Alliger was cited by Billboard Magazine as the youngest disc jockey in the nation to have a regular program. In addition to his radio program which began on the Cape five years ago, Alliger is a free lance writer, photographer and public relations man. He is public relations director of Sea Isle City.
