FINISHING TOUCHES are applied to a hand-crafted leather wallet, one of his specialties, by Horace Griffith. The Griffiths Gather No Moss
by M'KIlen Howland Florence and Horace Griffith of Stone Harbor are called "the couple who don't know how to quit 1 ’ by their friends. Horace worked as an engineer for 42 years at RCA and never saw the inside of a t.v. set. He was the drafting manager for missiles and other weaponry. His past includes eight years as a volunteer with Maple Shade Fire Co. No. 1. 10 years with Haddonficld Masonic Lodge where he served as Worshipful Master in 1954. He also taught mechanical and tool design at Camden Vo Tech before retiring (?) here. HE AND Florence now have three daughters and five active grandchildren. They describe themselves as a two-career volunteer
family. She was formerly president of the Needlework Guild and active in the Eastern Star in Haddonfield. Now they both work at Burdette Tomlin Hospital on Fridays in the Cheery Comer. Florence is chairman of Cape May County Historical Museum gift shop and they're both studying chair caning at the Vocational School, also in the Court House. HORACE’S PRINCIPLE hobby is working in leather. His handbags, wallets, credit-card cases, belts and miniature saddles are museum pieces, and he works out personal designs for friends. He made a wallet for President Gerald Ford and received a gracious note thanking him in return — a note he displays proudly.
He also teaches safe boating for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary — he was past commander of Flotilla 86 out of Avalon — and is still a seasonal employee of N. J. State Marine Police. One wonders what the Griffiths do with all their spare time? Swimming For Stroke Victims
