Greetings For Soviet Families
FISHING CREEK - An appeal to spread the Christmas spirit across the sea to the Soviet Union has been made by Rev. Dr. George Fincke, pastor of Covenant Bible Church, on Fishing Creek Rd., here. The appeal is to send Christmas cards to two Soviet Christian families who have suffered in prisons and labor camps more than 20 years because of their devotion to religious freedom. The Vaschenko and Ch* mykhaloy families will celebrate their third Christmas this year in a small isolated room in the basement of the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, where they have lived since June 27,1978.
MOST OF their children are still in Siberia and face starvation this winter. Their 21-year*old son, Sasha Vaschenko, has been in a Soviet labor camp for the past three years. Now he is ill and has little clothing to protect him from the cold. Camp officials refuse to give him clothing and medicine taken there by his sister. Small, light cards weighing ahalf ounce or less take 31 cents postage, Dr. fincke notes. Those interested are asked to write “Airmail" on the envelope and mail to: Peter Vaschenko and Maria Chmykhalov, care of The Consular Settion, Embassy of the United
