CAPE MAY - The city Pee Wee Basketball League drove down the lane for the first - time earlier this month. For the second straight year, the city Recreation Dept, in cooperation with the Greater Cape May business community, is sponsoring six teams for youngsters 8-11 years old. IN THE SEASON’Sinitial action. 1979 Champion Model Cleaners was starched 26-22 by the Hillhouse Greenery and Florists. David Matthews andWayne Walker controlled the backboards and scored 12 and 10 points, respectively', to key the win. Model Cleaners was led by the dynamic duo of Brian Lucas (8 points) andDennis Horn (8). CASALE’S GOT 12 points from backcourt ace Joe Mendo enroute to a 27-22 victory over Barry Clothes.

John DeGraw was high man for Barry’s with ten tallies. The Atlas Motor Inn suffocated the Cape May Kiwanis 28-8 as Brendan Connor drilled in 10 points and David Schenk backed him up with S Joah Goldberg powered the Kiwanis withe. THE JUNIOR Basketball League, also sponsored by the department and local business people, will dribble into action after the holidays. Sponsors- for that league are Sol Needles Agency, Guarantee Bank, Texas Avenue Market. The Lobster House, the Golden Eagle and Tolz Realtors. The Juniors are from 1215 years of age and will play at Lower Cape May Regional High School gym under the supervision of head varsity basketball cbach George Holden.

COURT HOUSE - Whitebrier, led by the strong performance of both men and women players, blasted Soens and O’Connor 40-19 in Town Team action at Jersey Cape Racquet Club. Ken Ferrante paced Whitebrier to an early 8-0 lead with his victory overK.J. Soens in men’s singles play. The women's singles saw Irene llighbee struggle and come "close-but-not-enough" in bowing 8-6 to Whitebrier's Marion Gorelick. THE WOMEN’S doubles match was an easy victory

for Whitebrier's Carol DeCinque and Helen Libro, as they won 8-2 over Cindy O'Connor and Mary Jane Soens. The men’s doubles was also an easy victory with Wh*itebrier's Ted Ferrante and Henry Gorelick scoring 8-2 over the grandson-grandfather team of Peter and Roger Soens Sr. The evening’s final match saw Soens and O'Connor’s Carol Donovan and Harry O'Connorfighting back with a close match of 9-8 over Martha Turkington and Tony Fittipaldi.
