THE HOLIDAY TOURNAMENTS are now over and they prove not a thing as far as the best teams are concerned ' At the Middle Gym. Wildwood Catholic upset a favored Middle Twp team because the Lady Panthers had a miserable shooting percentage. Caren Forbes, who broke the school record by scoring 36 points against a weak Absecam team, was h Id to 2 points by Wildwood Catholic. Sue McKinley could 't score in the second half and Kris Salvesen could not | . up the slack although she played valiantlv.Yet Middle Twp. h it one of the best-looking girls teams this reporter has see i and should be In contention for the CAL championship with Ocean City and IMeasantville. WHICH BRINGS UP THE question of men coachings girls teams. Why is a man who has played basketball in high school and college on mens team content to coach a team of girls? Can he successfully teach the fundamentals of a man-to-man (excuse the expression, womans libbers) to a group if females? Does he feel free to rant and rave on the iidelines (as all basketball coaches do these days) or must .repress his feelings over their mistakes? Or is a man inclined to overcoach a team of girls? Is Unnecessary to .scream out numbers like •‘Fifty-five". "Fifty-eight". "Triangle" to denote how they play 9 Why can't a coach do his coaching before the game, or between the halves and let his players play the game on the floor? And aren't there enough girls in Physical Education Depts. who are qualified to coach girls teams? There were four male coaches to three female, of the seven teams in the Tournament. Middle Twp has at least two capable women coaches on the staff who have nothing to do during the winter season. Debbie Clifford and Sue Roorbach Helling. Shouldn't their talents be used with the girls teams? LOOKING AT BOYS BASKETBALL Middle Twp beat Holy Spirit 69-52 in the Consolation Game at the Mainland Holiday Tournament, which was won by Mainland 55-53 over Pleasantville ANOTHER LOCAL ATHLETE attained the rank^of Eagle Scout Sunday at a Court of Honor at St. Raymoiw’s Auditorium in the Villas — Pat McGinn HI. who ran on the track team ayt Ixiwer Cape May Regional High and now is a freshman at Villanova College
