Bank Merger Is Completed
NEWARK First National State Bancorporation announced today that the merger of First NatiOdal Bank of South Jersey, which serves the Atlantic City and Southern New Jersey area, into,an affiliate of Bancorporation was consummated today In a joint statement. Hob|rt Ferguson, presidemrFirst National State Bancorporation, and Elwood Kirkman, president of first National Bank of South Jersey, commented. “We are extremely pleased at having completed this merger, coming as it does after a long and difficult process of administrative and legal steps. With that process now behind us. we are prepared to address ourselves totally to the challenges facing us in our role as New Jersey’s largest banking organization, operating in a highly competitive climate." THE MERGER,* one of the largest in the history of New Jersey banking, will create a banking organization with assets of more than $3 6 billion and deposits of $2.8 billion. First National State, the holding company of six New Jersey banks,
