Mews Notes from-

Seven Mile Beach M F lien Rowland 368-2294

WE’RE NOT surprised to learn that Pearl Buck, the first American woman to win the Nobel Prize for literature (in 1938). loved Stone Harbor and lived here from 1961 to 1969 — but only in winter because she disliked the summer crowds (Many yearrounders join her distinguished company in this regard) * * * WHEN WE MOVED here our summer friends said "It’s great now but what will you do in winter?" We had our owp unspoken misgivings and this year we got the answer: We get a chance .to really visit friends and neighbors whom we merely wave and call to on the beach while keeping a watchful eye on visiting kids in the surf during summer months.

DURING THE holidays there are parties, parties and more parties. We sadly nvssed some because of visits to our families but we got to some great ones.. The Jim Owings (he’s into every public-spirited activity) and his wife, Jane, whom we’ve known since school days, gave ope of the first and merriest. 'We got to know s6 many charming people. * * * THE BEN BARTLEYS’ wing-ding was special fun for us because the Wallaces (l.en and Betty) were there and we hadn't seen them since the day we made settlement on their former (our permanent) home. Mildred Bartley is a .fountain of information hut . she prefaces every story by pointing her finger at me -i Page 19 Please)
