Sideline Shots By The Old Sport
WHILE CONFINED TO house by a bout with the flu, the Old Sport has had to see his basketball games on the t.v. on a re-run basis, he has certainly enjoyed the basketball expertise of Chick Lndman, former Middle Twp. mentor who does the Color for Chuck Michaels on Channel 2. He does hesitate to give credit to the Officials and also criticize them if necessary. Chick knows too much basketball to limit himself to a t.v. broadcast. Hope to see him back in the coaching reins next year.
CAN’T HELP NOTICING the game of checkers being played by the high school basketball players. It started last year when big Bob Shafer transferred to Wildwood Catholic. Now he's back at Wildwood. Mark Harmon, who started at Middle is now playing for Wildwood, where helms been joined by Darrell Cooper, who moved to Wildwood from Middle. Then there is Doug Fulford. who transferred to Lower Cape May, although he is not playing basketball there. It seems to the Old Sport that rules should be more strict governing transfers, perhaps a waiting period before becoming eligible.
MIDDLE SHOWED ITS lack of depth against Pleasantville when the Panthers had to finish the game with four players after Derek Williams, Frank Brown and Kevin Jaudon failed out. Coach Bill Lucas had no substitutes left on the bench.
Sue McKinely scored her 1,000th point against Pleasantville and now joins Laurie Budd in this select
club.
Boys who have made it to 1,000 are Ted Croitor, Steadman Graham, Craig Roberson and Ricky Harmon. Since the Old Sport has not been out and around, he has nothing to report on volleyball action.

A MEMBER OF THE! School Board we were talking with At the recent Christmas Tournament, said he is sorry he voted for closing the school gyms to outsiders,Vand would change his vote next time. ^ Organizations such as the Kiwanis Club — which does so much for high school athletics, the Middle Twp.
