Separation Of Trash Pushed By MIA
SWAINipN - Renewed, efforts will be made to schedule meetings with municipal officials on solid waste plans for source separation, county Municipal Utilities Authority officials say. "Wildwood and Stone Harbor have accepted our offer to present various alternatives for separating, collecting and marketing paper, glass and metals," MUA executive director George Marinakis stated. "NOW THAT THE holidays are over, we hope to hear from the other municipalities. If we are to implement a source separation program this year we need to move ahead quickly with these exploratory meetings.” The modifications to the county solid waste management plan were approved by the freeholders Dec. 23 and were forwarded to the state Department of Environmental Protection before the Dec. 31 deadline. The NJDEP must now review and either ac:ept or reject the county solid waste management plan within 30 days of its submission. APPLICATIONS FOR state funding for the landfill/resource recovery siting study and the countywide source separation program have been filed with NJDEP and initial prospects for their approval are promising, the executive director related. Municipal officials from throughout the county
toured Ocean City last Thursday to view the con- • st met ion activities there. John Vinci k MUA Chair-* man, said the x tour was planned after several municipal officials expressed an interest.
