Caper Girls Win & Lose Last Week

THE CAPERS, upping their recored to 6-2, continued their onslaught against the Herd from Woodbury, capturing wins in 9 of the 12 bouts en route to a 37-9 victory. Angela Jackson^ Sandra Valentine, and Lydia Valentine combined for 28 points to carry the Lady Capers to a 41-'35 Cape Atlantic League victory over Buena in Buena last Tuesday. The Capers took advantage of Buena mistakes in jumping out to a 12-8 first quarter advantage. The Chiefs continued to sputter in the second period, committing frequent turnovers as Lower took a 26-20 halftime lead. BEHIND Lori Carrington, who finished with 16 points, the Chiefs rallied to cut the margin to 32-29 after three quarters, but that was as close as Buena could draw. Jackson led the Capers, now 4-6, witlv, 10 points, while the Valentine sisters finished with 9 and 7 tallies. This week, the Tigers were scheduled for an away game at Sacred Heart on Monday and travel to Ocean City on Friday. , * DESPITE A 10 point effort by Lisa McCullough, Absegami broke open a close contest with a “17 point scoring burst in the second Tjuarter, then hung on for a «' 42-35 win ovet Lower Cape May in girl's l>asketball at Absegami last Monday. After a close first period that saw the Braves take a 6-4- lead,Absegami outscored the Capers 17-5 in the second frame to carry a 23-9 lead into halftime THE CAPERS battled back behind McCullough and Angela Jackson to outsocre Absegami 29-19 in the final two periods, but ran out of time. McCullhugh and Jackson were high scorers for the Capers with 10 nd 8 points respectively, while Absegami's Sue Brown led all scorers with 14 point.
