Petition For King Holiday COURT HOUSE - The Cape May County Branch of the NAAGP if among organizatipns nationwide circulating petitions to the government to declare Martin Luther King's birthday a national holiday. In its petition, the local branch notes that no black or non-white American has, * ever been honored by any national holiday, and that Dr. King spearheaded (he movement toward equality for black people and other minorities ih this country. THE CIVIL rights leader was bom in Atlanta Jan. 15, - 1929 and was gunned down in Memphis April 4, 1968. Currently there are two. bills in the U.S. Copgress' considering Dr. King's birthday as a national holiday - U.S. House Bill 15 in the Post-Office and Civil Service Committee, and Senate Bill 25, in the Judiciary Committee. PETITIONS • ARE available thru the NAACP whose Jersey Cape members include president Dorothy Mack in Court House (465-5736), and treasurer Louis L. Lock of West Cape May (884-8852). “We hope that by Jan. 15 next year, Dr. King’s birthday will have been declared a national Holiday," Mr. Lock said in announcing the circulation of the petition locally. Theatre Group Seeks a Hand In Kid’s Show The Cape May Community Theater is seeking individuals interested in becoming involved in it’s upcoming children’s show The Prince Who Wouldn't Talk by James Brock. Stagehands, artists, ticket-takprs, set decorators, and refreshment servers are all needed for the show. THERE WILL be a production meeting, Jan. 31 at Cape May City Hall auditorium, and anyone interested in any phase of the production is invited to attend. This production will be presented in cooperation with the Jersey Cape Performing Arts Guild and the Mid-Atlantic Center For the Arts Feb. 21 at Cape May Convention Hall.
