Anderson, Douglass Spark Tigers Win
Lower Cape May Regional continued their winning ways last week, grabbing a 53-48 victory/ over Sacred Heart and a 46-41 win over Ocean/City to set up their conference showdown with tM top rated PleasantVille Greyhounds this 'Friday night. On Tuesday night, the Capers spotted Sacred Heart a 37-35 third quarter lead, then exploded for 18 fourth period points and a 53-48 triuihph at Erma. AFTER A CLOSE first half that ended with the Dinner Adds $7,000 Aid For Ducks \ CAPE MAY - Over 250 people attended the annual Ducks Unlimited dinner Saturday at the Top of the Marq Restaurant here. Jim Seibert of South Dennis, who serves as chairman of the Cape May County Chapter, presided over the fund raising event. FOLLOWING THE dinner, an auction was held, ratting $7,000 for Ducks Unlimited. Bill Darling served as auctioneer. Porcelain, carved decoys, paintings and other items were donated by artists, hunters and duck conservationists for Cape May and surrounding bounties. Ducks Unlimited was founded in 1837 to help restore- and rehabilitate prime waterfowl breeding grounds in Canada where over 70 per cent of North America’s waterfowl are hatched. Over 1,700 wetland restoration projects have been completed through the years. More than $100 million has been raised in Ducks Unlimited 42-year histoi*y.
Capers clinging to a 27-23 lead, the Hearts came to life, outscoring Lower Cape May 14-8 behind Jack Martine to go on top 37-35. However, led by Kyle Anderson and Greg Douglass, the Capers finished with a flourish,opening up a ten point lead late in the contest. Douglass captured top scoring honors* for the 9-2 Capers with 14 points, while Anderson tossed in 13. MARTINE LED all' scorers with 17 points for Sacred Feart. Against Ocean City on Friday night, the 10-2 Capers tried to force Ocean City to switch from a zone to a man-to-man defense in the first period, but watched it backfire as Chris Rackley and Matt. Watts combined for 13 points and a 13-6 Raider lead. V After the Capers broke on top in the second stanza, using 8 points by Douglato Jo escape with a slim 24-21 halftime lead, the two teams entered the final period deadlocked at 33 as Ocean City staged a furious rally. AS THE TWO teams battled into the final minutes, it wasthe clutch shooting of Anderson and guard Jesse Johnson, combining for 8 fourth quarter points as the Capers pulied out a 46-41 win. Anderson and Douglass shared top honors for Lower Cape May, both finishing with 13. Ocean City also had two players in double figures, Watts leading all scorers with 15 tallies, while Rackley tossed in 10. This week, the Mikkle Township Panthers were scheduled to play at Erma yesterday, and the Greyhounds come to Erma for a showdown on Friday night.
