At least four officers on the 27-member force are to be let go, and Mayor Sam DeVico indicates that there may have to be even further personnel cutbacks. They have also been charged with burglarizing the same shop twice before. A Light Idea LOWER TWP. — Muncipal treasurer Wade Cooper has suggested this municipality revert to street lighting districts as a way of reducing the 4 township budget by some $200,000, — a figure which would bring the proposed $4 million municipal fiscal measure to only $82,000 over the mandatory 5 per cent cap. Street lighting costs here came under the muncipal bugdet several years ago after several lighting districts were abolished. The township still has fire districts for the most part — under which volunteer fire company costs are divided up among residents of the particular service area.

was initially envisioned by the commission. At issue is people, access and money. The township feels a library here would serve a wider area, be more accessible and is only right given the quartermillion dollars in county library tax revenue the township has paid over th years. On the other hand, Ocean City, the only municipality that doesn’t pay the county library tax, would become a big, new source of tax revenue for the county library system, where the branch to be located there.
