No H.O.P.E. for Program
COURT HOUSE - Coun ty Surrogate W. Robert Hentges has announced that the recently created H.O.P.E. program for widows and widowers in the county is being discontinued. Citing lack of interest and participation by the public, Hentges said that it was not economically feasible to continue to fund the program. H .O.P.E. (HELPING Other People Evolve) was a program to aid widows and widowers. Hentges said, and to help those people adjust to the loss of a . loved one. The program consisted of 16 weekly semjnars. which were con-' ducted in the County Library Building one day each week. T( pics included Will. Social Fecurity. Real Estate. Banking. Home Security, emotional stress and many other subjects designed to help widows

said.
The surrogate began the program by employing Thomas Johnston with a federal grant from the county Office on Aging. The first cycle began last July 1st with 28 county residents participating in the program. The next cycle began in October and only five people chose to participate.-.Hentges said. The most recent cycle began Jan. 13. and there

were no participants. "I regret that the pro-
gram must be discontinued,” Hentges said, "but perhaps in the future there may be more people in-
terested."
Hentges safd that Johnston has done an excellent job laying the groundwork for the program, and because of his efforts, it can be reinstituted if there is suffi-
cient interest.
STONE. HARBOR - A nominating committee to select candidates for the Seniors officers was appointed by acting president Dottie Stump Chairlady of the commit tee is Vernice Pilert. past president. She will be assisted by Marie Spence. Jane Boss and Russell Bailey.
The committee will report a list of candidates at the April business meeting, when nominations will be accepted from the floor. The voting on all officers will take .place at the May meeting The new officers will take over at the September business meeting.
