SOUNDINGS 3By Boyd Tyler 3 AT THE fcNI) OF LAST WEEK I stopped down to Roseman's Boat Yard to see hou the Janie T VII vyas doing during this icy time. The ocean and the dock^are how. clear of ice. and you don’t see any hard ice anymore except from about the new bridge on the canal, down near th^rai I road'trestle. There’s still plenty of ice in thefcay though, but fortunately it’s all gone from the docks, and I found the Janie T VII in very good shape David Hoscman had put a big light in her bilge, and this kept any water in her from freezing: and the automatic bilge pump was working well. ^ • Randy" Laudeman was putting points on some long sticks with an axe. and when the ice disappears from the bay. he’ll be ready to put in his stake nets. If we can get through February without any bad snow storms or any more cold weather it will be time to start getting ready for spring fishihg It’s been a long winter. and spring will sure be a welcome sight. AFTEtt I LEFT ROSEMANS I headed home in my Land Rover with my two dogs for an evening of t.v. at the Super Bowl. I’m sorry it wasn't better for the Eagles, because it would have been nice to have another champion team in Philadelphia, but it really looked as thoiigh the Oakland Raiders had more going for them in that game. The Eagles got some tough breaks at the start of the game, and they never really got any good running attacks going. I must say that Dick Vermeil and Company took the loss with a saddened courageness that told you that they'd be back next year to try again. It's tough to lose a championship like that after you’ve come so far. and it's tough to think of all the games that have tcWbe won before you get another try. but you could see by their-set faces that those Eagles are going to be . counted in 1981 WHEN THIS COLL’MN COMES Ol T. the Atlantic City boat show will be making the headlines I stopped down on Thursday to see my old friend "Colt" Sonicrs at Cape Island Marina, and he showed me a 55 ft and a 60 ft llatteras in the water at the East Basin awaiting delivery. The big news, though, is that Cape Island yacht sales will be showing, in Atlantic City, the new 32 foot "Black Fin ". powered with two turbocharged diesels, and I'd like to predict that this boat will be the hit of the show at con-

vention hall

I wrote a lot about the custom tailored "Black Fin" last year, and I really believe that this size class will be popular in 1981. I D LIKE TO (JO INTO ALL the new boating gadgets like computerized Leran C. and white line depth recorders, but I'll have to save them till later when I've got more data on them. One new item on the market is Cortland Line Co.’s new Record braided Nylorvline (freshwater IGFAt. and Cortland Tournament grade monofilament line coming out in 4. 8. 12. 16 ; . 20 & 30 pound class Cortland's new lines are designed with a safe minimum test, and are guaranteed not to exceed the maximum limit to qualify for official records They started their announcement a la Orson Welles: "Cortland will sell no line before its time." They enclosed a 1981 fishing forecaster that you can get free by writinc'to Cortland Line Co.. P.O. Box 1362. Cor Hand.
