AFTER WAITING PATIENTLY for the Middle Twp. Panthers to break out with some winning basketball, the Old Sport now feels that the blame should be placed where it belongs, on the coaching staff. With some exceptional material coming back. The Panters were expected to be in contention for the league title, but sadly that hasn't come true. When they played the stronger teams they came out on the short end of the . stick. They lost two to Lower Cape May. one to Ocean City and one to PLcasantville — all of which they whould have won, with the possible exception of Pleasantville,But the big let down was losing to Sacred heart, a teaiti which they had beaten easily before. LEADING 27-23 AT THE HALF, they scored only 11 points in the third quarter and never caught. Surprisingly, with the Hearts playing a zone defense. Middle's best outside shooter David Smith sat oh the^bench the whole fourth quarter. It has more and more become evident that Middle doesn't have a good bench coach, one who can size up the situation &nd make adjustments. It is too bad because with no one outstanding team in the league, this would have been the year for the Panthef's to make a run for it. And they certainly’had the Material, with three big men, Frank Brown, Kevin, Jaudon and Dawson Spaulding, and two sharpshooters, Derek Williams and David Smith. But the don't seem to be motivated to play the kind of basketball they are capable of playing and Chick Ludman, one of the best basketball coaches in South Jersey, is the color man for the T V. crew broadcasting the games! DEREK WILLIAMS ranks 10th in the CAL with an average of 15.1 Kevin Jaudon is 12th with 13.0 Dawson Spaulding is 16th with 10.9 On the distaff side, Sue McKinley remains in 2nd place .with a 18.6 average while Kris Salvesen has climbed to 4th. and 13.8 karen Forbes is 6th with 13.4. THE OLD SPORT regrets leaving out the name of Kathleen Vistenzo on the trip to the Super Bowl. Understand she was the organizer of the trip THE MIDDLE TWP. ReAeation Dept, announces that the Volleyball League will start Feb. 16th, with games Monday and Wednesday at the Lockwood Youth Center on Dennisville Rd. Interested teams should get in touch with Gregg Arnold at the Rec Dept.
