New Dean Appointed For County CAMDEN ' - Bishop George H. Guilfoyle has announced the appointment of Msgr. Joseph E Conlon. pastor of St. Ann’s Church, Wildwqod, as Dean of Cape May County. Msgr. Conlon replaces Msgr. M. Augustine Crine, former pastor of Our I^ady Star of the Sea parish. Cape N^ay, who is presently In retirement from active ministry. { Msgr. Conlon, pastor of St. Ann’s since AuguSt 1972, was formerly pastor of Holy Rosary. Cherry Hill. He has beert a member of the diocesan Board of Consuitors since April 1973. bv Frank Majane DIAMOND’ BEACH - Eighteen in dividuals, including a 10-year-old Court House youth, were among recipients honored during this year's Awards Dinner, sponsored by Local 59 of the Policeman’s Benevofent Assn. The annual event, this year at Enrico's, honors civilians and law enforcement officers for bravery, heroism and other acts or achievements benefiting the safety and welfare of fellow citizens. Some 206 persons were on hand for the dinner, including judges and prosecutors. The f PBA Local represents all departments in Cape May County except Ocean City and Wildwood Here are this year’s award*dinner recipients: Meritorious Service Award Robert Martin (Lower Township Police Dept.) — On June 2. 1980 after a plane crashed at Cape May County Airport. Erma, Officer Martin entered the mangled plane and disabled the electrical system because of fire and presence of airplane fuel. Officer Martin remained in the plane until all persons were removed from the wreckage. Three persons died as a result . of the crash. However, one person lived due to Officer Martin's first aid. Distinguished Service Award Edward Jeffries (Lower Township Police Dept.)—On March 4, 1980 Apprehended a subject believed tobe-respon sible for the shooting death of a woman in the Villas. The subject was apprehended a short distance from the scene. The individual is currently on trial for murder in Cape May County Superior Collrt David Rodman (Off-duty Cape May lifeguard)—On May 30. l!wn swam out and rescued three men who had been thrown '• from a capsized boat off Philadelphia Ave. in Cape May. Mr. Rodman kept three men from being smashed against the jetty rocks until a helicopter could pull all four from the water. .
