participating institutions in the center will be responsible for developing its own policies and procedure, for Swarding credit based upon prior learning, membership in the center requires that each institution have in place a policy consistent .with the primary goal : to provide increased educational flexibility to adult students. t STUDENTS COMING to tfic center may earn college^ credit through standardized examinations or through the development of d portfolio which describes and documents the prior learning they hope to earn credit for. Working with trained faculty assessors at each institution. credit recommendations will be made through the center to the student’s home institution. The center itself does not award credit. It provides counseling and program advisement for students in conjunction with the student’s home
institution.
Beyond providing issistance to individual students, the center will also serve several institutional needs by helping each participating college develop fair and equitable policies for the use of nontraditional testing and assessment methods and by encouraging more traditional institutions to make increased use of the non-traditional options available for the awarding of academic credit. THE EIGHT COLLEGES currently
participating in the centfer are: Caldwell College, the College of Saint Elizabeth. Glassboro State College. Middlesex County College. Richard Stockton State College. Rutgers University (University College. Newark, >, Somerset County College, and Trenton State College. Four additional institutions will be added to this initial group by July. 1981. By steadily increasing- membership of the center, the directors of the center envision that it will serve as a model for other regional networks
