It's still a bit early for springtime, but not too soon to 'think spring'. One of our favorite nature writers, the late Hal Borland, once wrote of February: •‘February is the last full month of winter, by the almanac at least, and the traditional battleground of wiring weather systems. It begins with the absurdity of Groundhog ^Day, celebrates romance in midmonth, and includes an extra day every four years." A /LOT OF folks who claim ''February's not so bad," are the ones who are hopping on planes and taking cruises. We’ve offerd to steal away in their luggage, but so far no takers. Funny thing about February nowadays is a lot of people thing they’ve already celebrated Washington's birthday because of President’s Day — or whatever it’s proper to call it — but technically, we haven't, folks. George Washington was bom on the 22nd which won’t come until this Sunday. We always like to bake a cherry pie or two in honor

of George's birthday. Some years they turn out better than other years. If you’ve got a recif>e for an altogether perfect cherry pie, send it in. Better yet, send in the pie to prove it.
