Capers’ Team Play Too Much for Opponents

Kyle Anderson and John 'Bassett combined for 34 points to lead Lower Cape May to a 61-50 victory over arch-rival Wildwood last Tuesday at Erma, then Steve Puller sank a 15-ft. jump shot with five seconds to play to give the Capers a 52-51 win at Buena last Thursday. Against the Warriors, Lower Cape May jumped out to a 10-6 first period lead, then outscored Wildwood 1S-8 in the second quarter for a 25-14 halftime advantage.
THE CAPERS upped it to 42-24 with a 17-point third quarter scoring binge, and though the Warriors caught

ON THURSDAY. Lower Cape May held a slim 10-8 lead after the first period. That was quickly erased, however, as Larry Smith poured in 8 second quarter points to lead a 23 point Buena rally and a 31-24 halftime lead. Behind Puller’s 12 second half points, the Capers slowly closed the gap, outscoring the Chiefs 14-6 in the third quarter to regain the lead 38-37. THE TWO TEAMS

CAPE MAY-The city Department of Civic Affairs' will begin its Coed Volleyball League Wednesday, March 11. Games will be played at the Elementary School 6-10 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays. Each team will bc.required to pay an entry - fee to cover expenditures

THERE'S GOOD NEWS about Ricky Harmon. He has come back after a third operation and is now getting in shape by playing scrimmage. When his knee stiffened up after the second operation and physical therapy failed to loosen it up, it was feared that Ricky’s promising basketball career was over. But now, with two years of eligibility left at Old Dominion, we can look forward to Rick's finishing up his college career In a blaze of glory and then getting a chance to show what he can do in the professional ranks. Recreation Dept’s volleyball league didn’t get underway this week. Monday and Wednesday nights were given up for the teams to have some organization and practice. Teams expected to compete are State Farm, last year’s champion; Kiwanis, Optimists, Acme, Sheriff’s Dept.i Murphy’s mart and Jamesway. This league was very popular last year and a great .* many men were disappointed when the High School gym couldn’t be used for the games this year. But the 4-H club came to the rescue and the league will go on. • • • REWI THOMPSON, former Middle Twp basketball star is now getting plenty of playing time at Stockton College. His sister Veronica was playing on the girl’s varsity team in her freshman year until she had to sit out with an injury. • • • A BENEFIT BASKETBALL game was staged by the Key Club of Middle Twp High recently. The High School faculty beat a team of varsity football players in the main attraction. Playing for the faculty were Dennis Anderson, Basil Cagliari, Debbie CUfford, Phil Exley, Chick Lodman and BUI Penman. The football players were three teams deep and used Danny Arenberg, Ed Bohn, Art Cannon. Jay Erkert, Mark Garcia. Chuck and Mike Marriner, Eddie Leighton, Tom Nicholas, Keith Seaman, Tom Hutchinson, Jeff Tomlin, Jake Tomlin and Tymiall. Referees were Monica Sherman and Caren Forbes of the Girls Vanity team. The teachers won the game and everybody had a good time.
