Hello March! The month of the advent of springtime is just around the corner. Won't be long before crocuses and daffodils will be peeking up through the ground. Not a moment too soon for us. Yeah, we Itfve all the seasons, but we have to admit the waning days of winter sometimes wear us down a bit. Did you know in olden times the year began in March? Seems more natural to begin the year with spring rather than in midwinter as we now do. The name of March comes from the Roman god of war, Mars. Perhaps he was a spring god before he was a war god. Or perhaps the Romans chose his name for the month because they thought it’s a good time for war. Those old Romans. ASH WEDNESDAY is next Wednesday, March 4. These can be surprises in weather. Here when we’re all ready for spring and looking for the first robin, we may awaken to find a new, clean snow blanket over everything,' a sharp, keen wind and the mercury dropping down again. The sun is creeping higher and higher in the
sky at noon. It’s lighter in the mornings these days. Welcome March! Welcome, welcome, oh sweet springtime! THE HOF BRAD - the meeting place for lunch in » the Wildwoods! A lot of clubs and organizations have discovered the Hof Brau, comer'' of Oak & Pacific Aves., is an ideal .meeting place.
