LEN DOWN of 7th St. in Avslon k>ve« this island^ as much as we do. We both remember when the Frank Wilsons. the Herb Tlmannses and the Tom Poole* had to move their houses farther south on the island to protect them from the relentless encroachment of Townsend’s Inlet on the north tip of Seveh Mile Beach. The day Franny and Tom Poole had their house moved, every |(id on the island and most adults watched as the competent movers asked for a glassful of ink, placed the glass on the porch rjriling, cut the telephone wires temporari* ly. moved the house about three blocks and resettled it on its new foundation — without spilling a drop of ink (we ha ve the pictures to prove it.) The beautiful William Peace compound with its Kandsome antique figurehead was not so fortunate — the sea claimed that property in a violent storm. .

WHILE REMINISCING. • I showed Helen three very old postcards of the area and lamented that they were so faded. She asked me if I knew Ethel and George Langley of Swainton. She said that Mr. Langley is a retired antiques refinisher who now restores old pictures ^nd documents as his hobby. Helen tea close friend of the Langleys and volunteered to give my postcards to George to see if he could clarify them for use in The Herald. He did

AT THE FEB. 16th chamber oNDcommerce meeting in Stwie Harbor, chamber president Glenn A. Townley. asked for a minute of silence in tribute to William J. Diller who liad passed away that mor-
ning.
Bill Diller will live forever in the minds of ’ those who knew him as a man of wit and charm, an astute businessman with integrity, a philanthropist and a gentleman in every nuance of that word.

THE KIDS of Stone Harbor Elementary School had 'an enlightening visit to Police Headquarters where they were given a guided tour and instructed in police procedures of fingerprinting and photographing miscreants. As a bonus, each child received a qopy of his or’ her mug shot. L • • • ONE OF THE toughest things about casting off all lines to environs in which one has lived for years in saying farewell to dentists and doctors who have kept one eating in comfort and mobile (if not agile) for a large part of one’s life. This was our most serious concern when we decided to retire. Happily, our doctor recommended and sent our medical histories to Rodalpho Garcia, MD, of 120 31st St., Avalon with whom we established an instart rappoft and in whom we have tremendous confidence. ram pathologically afraid of dentists and Wm. F. Robinson. DMD, 2389 Dune Dr., Avalon assuaged my fears during my first vteit. People with red hair are notoriously more sensitive to pain, but my spouse who still has his hair (but red it no longer is), is no dental sissy, and he was delighted that Dr. Robmson’s work is equally good and far less expensive than rates for dentistry in Philadelphia and on the Main Line.
IN SftoNE HARBOR, after two years of deliberation, an Awards Program for police personnel has been finalized according to Chief Wm. B. Donohue. The program, administered by a boar^ wjrich consists of officers ^presenting all ranks, provides for awards for acts of Valor, bravery, distinguished achievement, merit and* life saving. Commendable acts of citizens are also provided for in the program. Chief Donohue also reported the value of pro. perty stolen increased 55 per cent over the year 1979. Howeyer, the recovery rate also increased from 40 per cent in ’79 to a remarkable 67.5 per cent in I960. This is especially significant since the federal, state and county average for larceny offenses cleared by arrest is a mere 18 per cent!
IN THE FEB. 22nd edition of the Philadelphia Inquirer travel section there was an article extolling the virtues and ehtiqements of Longboat Key, an ex elusive island across the bay from Sarasota, Fla. Initially the dream of circus magnate John Ringllng, the resort caters to the taste of those who dislike commercialism.
We think the ultimate accolade came when the article described the key thusly: "Its a Stone Harbor of condominiums. Clean, well-plotted, ever so carefully zoned, developed with restraint. There is a wildlife sanctuary, dune restoration projects and, yes, charm.” Sound familiar to anyone?
