by M’Ellen Rowland AVALON - «t the tales! meeting of Borough Council, President Philip Judyski announced completion of the 1981 budget and also stated the local purpose tax will remain the same as last year 64.2 per $aoo. Emphasis will continue to be one of providing services not cutting them; and it was noted this would be a major accompljkhment for any community, let alone Avalon which has recently undergone a change of government, realignment of departments and divisions and reorganization of employee responsibilities. The budget will be austere since utilities will increase 22 per cent, gas and vehicle expense 106 per cent, and employees’ salaries are ever increasing. Other municipalities
have had to services to keep within the CAP law but Avalon's budget is committed to items of increased services: a new ambulance for the Rescue Squad; a curb and side walk project which will be going out for bid shortly; . four new blocks of boardwalk re-construction; 22 blocks of new paving; for Dune Dr. and various other streets, and additional dredging permits for waterways and lagoons; and a completely reconstructed and expanded recreation area at 8th St. Reprints of the budget will be available upon request, approximately March 18, at the office of the borough clerk. In other action at the Feb. 28 meeting, council approved an ordiance appropriating $424,000 and authorizing the issuance of
$402,800. in bonds or notes for various improvements to the sewage treatment plant.
