Crew’s Work On Display
AVALON - Paintings, drawings and prints by local artist Cheryl A. Crews, are currently being exhibited at Sullivan’s Dept. Store, 2170 Dune Drive. Miss Crews devised an inexpensive method to reproduce her pen-and-ink drawings, andHhese, which could be called intimate portraits of Avalon, show the many facets of the town
through the artWt’s eyes, as do a number of her paintings, also shown. THE YOUNG artist’s remarkable facility with oils, acrylics “and watercolors was recognized by Robert Sullivan* president of the department store, when he saw some of her work. He invited the artist to hang some works in the store, allotted her a special section and the pictures
were hung. The display opened Feb. 26. Miss Crews attended the Philadelphia College of Art a few years ago, and since graduation has earned her living by her brush. She has also taught drawing and painting in this area, conducting classes and seminars at her Avalon studio and in the field. Miss Crews also wrote a column on art, "Painting, From the Group Up.” FOR THE PAST few years, in her . spare time, she has roamed the littoral in the Avalon area, sketch book in hand, to depict the surf, the beach, the dunes and the salt meadows. Crews has work in a number of private collections from her native New Jersey to Tokyo, Japan. IN APRIL Miss Crews will become the bride of Gerald Lynch, ,a young sculptor who formerly lived in Villas, but is at present a resident of Washington, D.C. Lynch, while in Villas, executed a large marble statue of St. John Neumann which is now installed in Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Philadelphia. Lynch is now working on sculpture at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. The couple will, after the wedding, make their home in Washington.
