Caper Matmen Fall Short
VINELAND — Lower Cape May wrestlers Mike Taylor, Ray Obst, and Charles Jas perse all were elirhinated in the preliminary rounds of the Region 8 Wrestling Tournament here Friday and Saturday. The Caper's hopes for a state champion in the 129 pound class ended in the finals of the District 32 tournament here two* weeks earlier. Though Victor Romeo qualified for the Region tourney with a second place finish* the shoulder injury he suffered in his final bout against Ocean City’s Phil Faunce was severe enough to prevent him from advancing to the Region 8 tournament. THE FIRST CAPER to fall in the Region 8 tourney was 148 pounder Taylor as he dropped a close 4-3 decision to eventual fourth place finisher Scott Rollins from West Deptford. Lower Cape May’s Obst also came up short in the 158 pound class as he lost a 7-0 deci-
sion to Highland’s John Stafford, who wound up advancing to the State Tournament with a second place trophy. Rocco Villari from Overbrook eliminated Jasperse with a third period pin with seven seconds left in the match en route to a fourth place finish. Romeo, Taylor, Obst, and Jasperse, all juniors, will return for another year for 15-4 Lower Cape May with valuable post-season experience behind them. THREE OF TJIE four Ocean City wrestlers were also eliminated in the opening quarter-final round of the Region 8 tourney. 115 pounder Joe Monteleone lost a 16-1 decision to third place finisher Dicky Howell from Penns Grove. 122 pound wrestlerBob Schmidt dropped an 11-0 decision to three time Region 8 champion, Gateway's Greg Rizzo. CAPE MAY - The Civic Affairs Youth Street Hockey League ended regular season play with the usual card of three gantes. National Associates shut out the Ugly Mug 4-0 as Jessie Matsinger tallied two goals. In Senior Division play Cape May Lumber splintered Axelsson and Johnson 3-0 to earn number one seeding going into the playoffs. Win Fishing Prizes
SEA ISLE CITY — Twenty winners from as far away as Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., took home prizes in the 1960 Greater Sea Isle City Fishing Tournament, according to Cliff VanSandt, tournament director. Prizes for the contest included fishing rods, reels and fishing accessories. The annual fishing tournament awards the prizes for the largest fish in many categories caught in the waters here. THE ANNUAL CITY fishing tournament is open to all, and no entry fee is required. "Our 1981 Fishing Contest starts on March l and runs through Dec. 31,” VanSandt said, "and there will again be prizes this year. If you think your catch just might be a prize winner, take it to the nearest official weighing station in the city, have your fish weighed and enter it in our 1981 contest. You could be next year’s winner." Middle Township sent two wrestlers to the tournament, including fourth place finisher Tom Tice. 170 pounder Jeff Kane was eliminated in the opening round by Audubon’s Joe Walsh who captured a 14-0 win en route to a fourth place finish. 188 pounder Tice started off quickly with a pin victory over Kingsway's Jim Gattuso with just 1:06 gqne in the first period of their match, but second place wrestler Bob Pilkauskas from Eastern dealt Tice a 12-8 decision in the semifinals, then Pitman’s Tom Kane grabbed a 14-7 decision over Tice in the consolation
