Centennial Celebration Set by MAC CAPE MAY - Herbert Beitel is the new president of the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC). All new officers took office as of Jan. 1 Other officers elected were: 1st vice president. William D. Zerby; 2nd vice president, Marianne Schatz; 3rd vice president, May McLaughlin; treasurer, Wade Cooper, and secretary, Marian Robertson. THE THREE TRUSTEES who won seats in a contested election were: Alfred Hanson; Rev. Robert M. Kahl Jr. and Winnie O’Brien. Trustees Kathryn Bennett, Vance Enck and Herman Hirsh are currently serving terms that expire on Dec.

31.

Those with terms expiring Dec. 31, 1982 are Dorothy Gaver, Evelyn McCoy and Gerard Tall. BEITEL ANNOUNCED plans for the Centennial celebration commemorating the completion of the Physick. “Cot-

tage” in 1881.

"MAC is also celebrating

its 10th year," Beitel noted. “During this time MAC has invested over $750,000 plus many thousands of hours of volunteer time in the restoration, refurbishing and furnishing of the Physick Estate. These funds have been generated by the MAC sponsored Walking, Trolley and House Tours as well as special activities throughout theiyears. "It is importafit to note that these contributions to our community have been accomplished without any funds from Cape May City or County being involved.”

THE CENTENNIAL ac-

tivities will be kicked off by a Preservation Week Dinner and entertainment May 9, and will feature fairs, lawn parties and festivities during the Summer. Festivities will culminate at a special gala capping . the 9th annual Victorian

Weekend in October. The Physick Hou^e Tour

is being expanded this year to cover the grounds of the Physick Estate. As a part of this program matching MAC and Green Acres funds will be used to replant and landscape the grounds, as well as to in- * stall public restroom

facilities on the grounds. A NEW enclosed,

motorized tr&lley has been ordered by MAC. When delivered in Mid-June, this trolley will cover a special route. Along with the other Trolley Tour operated by MAC for several years, the new Trolley Rides to be provided during the Centennial Year will provide visitors and residents with a much broader coverage of Cape May’s unique historical heritage.
