Seventh grader Mark Gonzales looks over some of the unique craft projects his fellow classmates displayed at the Teitleman School's fourth annual Sights and Sound Derby. Annual Derby Displays Students’ Creativity
By Bob Shlles ERMA - Did you ever wonder whether your plants prefer rock or soft music? Can a fly pilot its own plane? Do natural dyes color the same on natural and synthetic ,yams? Or how about the answer to the old dilemma, Does Listerine really kills germs? These are the topics of just a Tew of the many science projects displayed by Richard Teitelman School students last Thursday at the junior high’s fourth annual Sights and Sounds'Derby. A SCHOOL-WIDE event, the derby provides students the opportunity to demonstrate and display their numerous crafts and talents. In addition to the evening’s highlight, a talent show, the hall! were filled With various art^ home economics and shdp projects. Home Ec.
students offend samplings of different foods, vocational skills classes displayed various motor parts and motor repair techniques, and there was even a bee-keeping demonstration. According to Elizabeth Harris, eighth grade science teacher, the derby is an excellent idea because it involves the whole school and generates student creativity. "Every student has some degree of creativity," she explained. AN EVENT such as the Derby, she noted, encourages this creativity to be brought out and, hopefully, to further its development. * "It’s evident," she said pointing to the various displays, "that the students pul a large amount of time and effort into the projects and exhibit a great deal of pride in their work."
