Wetr, $40,000 Look Outside Post Office

CAPE MAY - "It will never come up, at least for the next two hundred years." That’s how Bob Stanfill of Mibo Construction Co., Lindenwold, describes the brick sidewalk he’s constructing around the Post

Office here. His part of the project, which began in January, is expected to be completed hy the end of this week. ACCORDING TO Mr. Stanfill, the new sidewalk was needed because certain areas of the previous

concrete and stone walkway were badly damaged by the expansion of tree roots. The work had to be done during the winter because of the traffic congestion that occurs in this area during summer months. Asked if it Isn’t advisable to lay brick during warmer weather to prevent cracking, he replied that as long as the temperature remains above freezing everything should be alright. The cost of putting in the 22,000 color bricks is approximately $11,000. THE ENTIRE project, including landscaping, tearing out the previous sidewalk and laying the new brick sidewalk is, according to Mr. Stanfill, costing in the vicinity of $40,000. This is being federally funded through the Post Office The general contractor overseeing the project is E. D. Purdy Co. Inc., of Tabernacle N.J.

Advice to Employers

WILDWOOD — The New Jersey Job Service is appealing to employers in the area to make their employment needs known early. This is particularly important, it is pointed out, in light of the casino boom in Atlantic County. The job service recommends that seasonal employers call the service at least one month before their opening date IT’S ALSO POINTED out that the cur-

rent minimum wage, both federal and state, is $3.35 an hour, and that waitresses most now receive at least $2.01 an hour as the cash portion of their wages. The Wildwood Job Service is at 3810 New Jersey Ave., (729-09970; Cape May Job Service; 1382 Lafayette St., (884-2131); Sea Isle Cily Job Service, John F. Kennedy Blvd.
