WKS HAD READ our ar-
lore:
About the year 1912-1913 there was no road between Avalon and Stone Harbor. , People used the beach as their thoroughfare. One day when Wes was driving along he was startled to sec his first airplane, piloted by "a Nfr Graves of the Wildwood Tribune” trying to take, off for a flight unfortunately Mr Graves didn't make it that day-he got as high as the Water Tower, got discouraged •and landed safely.

Wes also told us that Turtle Gut (that’s right) Inlet was filled in during 1924-25 and, as an advertising gimmick. Frank A Pedrick bilfft a Tower in the middle of Pacific Ave. in what is now known as Wildwood Crest. Nobody remembers what happened to the tower tho many people remembar it's existence. WE RAN into Ellen Vaughn last week — she had just returned from a two-week business trip to Ireland during a particularly mild stretch of weather. She didn't devote her time exclusively to business. She went to a cocktail party at the Abbey Tavern, outside of Dublin, and a reception at Kilkenny Workshop on Nassau st. From the business angle, she found and bought ex-

IF YOU F.NJOY religious music, we urge you to attend the regular 10 a m Sunday Mass at St. Mary's Episcopal Church al^Sth St. Fr. Wesley Martiff and his vestry have been fortunate ii\ acquiring the expertise of a personable new organist. George Lyon of Lynnewood, who is also Senior Vice President of.the First National Stale Bank of South Jersey. George and his wife Mary Mouise have a 5-year old son George Lyon, IV, whom they call “Junior” to avoid the natural inference that this must be an Anglican dynasty. CONNIE SANDS of the Sandpiper Galerie and Jo Colino of CherflkHill are busy — they’re excitedly preparing for the opening of a new Stone Harbor School of Art. They will be bringing six workshops to the area for July and August. Profes-

AT A RECENT cocktail party we learned that Ted Salvenson of Stone Harbor has bought property in Cape May Court House from Sam Albrecht and is building a year-round home there. Also that Jake Clark, our postman, has put his home up for sale.

THE REGULAR meeting of Stone Harbor Boro Council, — which all residents are strongly urged to attend — was much more meaningful to us last Tuesday evening because they have reinstituted the practice of making printed agendas available to the public. Having a voice in local
governmental procedures is a lot more important than watching television and, once you get involved, more interesting too. • • • COUNCIL WOMAN Rachel H. Sloan told us at the March 19 workshop meeting in Avalon that signs on the beaches will not completely disappear this summer. They will be replaced by attractive green and white signs, bearing the logo of Avalon and welcoming visitors. WE WERE alerted to a special Lenten Service presented by radio station WRIO-103 FM each Wednesday at 4 p.m. with Father James Ronan of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Stone Harbor officiating. It is an inspriring and emotional experience steeped in ecumenicity. We recommend highly to those who have a desire to give or a need to receive help during this special season.
