School Seeks Volunteer Aides

CAPE MAY - A volunteer aide program is getting underway at the Cape May Elementary School, and persons interested in helping out in the school are being sought. "We have high hopes of it being a rewarding experience for students and volunteers alike," commented Dawn Andrus, one of the parents involved in the new program. "We would like the entire community to have the opportunity of sharing in it with us," she said Monday. ACCORDING TO Mrs. Andrus, the areas of help are limitless. A few that she mentioned included aiding in the classroom, library, the office, and in the music and art pro-

grams. The Volunteer Aide Program is being formed by a group of parents, teachers, school board members and administrators in the local school district. THE VOLUNTEER aides will help out in the school a few hours a week. Those interested in being aides may pick up forms at

either the elementary school or at Victorian Towers. The forms should be" returned to the school. For more information, contact Mrs Andrus at 884-7311, Charlotte Calhoun 884-3647 or Rona Craig 884-5697. They are also open to any suggestions callers may have about the program.

City Installs New Lights

SEA ISLE CITY - The city is installing 66 new street lights and replacing bulbs in the existing lights with the new mercury vapor type, which give more illumination and they are cheaper to opehate. Mayor Dominic C. Raffa

said. The recently paved section of the Promenade, from 44th to 57th Street, is also scheduled for the new lights. By using wooden poles instead of metal ones, the city will save $42 per month on each pole.

Big Project Begins

(From Page 1) the potential buyer will have to choose. “We’re trying to keep some of the old Cape May style," Mitnick said, adding that many modern homes today are constructed of non-maintenance material and tend to contain large rooms. As planned, Tranquility Park is being developed in three separate phases. The first will include the construction of 78 ’ homes. It is estimated that these homes will be ready for occupancy by the beginning of next year. IT WAS ONLY a couple of months ago that Mr. Mitnick obtained final approval from the township Planning Board to

develop the acreage in sections, the tight money market having scotched plans to develop the large site all at once. The developer had first approached the board a half-dozen years ago Other approvals, including permits from the state and federal government, were also needed In fact, Mr Mitnick pointed out Monday that it had taken 24 years to get permission from Conrail to excavate beneath the former PRSL tracks which go thru the site. The digging was necessary for the installation of water mains. More than 24 miles of*the pipe were recently laid to the site thru farm fields from the township MUA water tank, west of the elemehtary schools.

State and federal aid matching funds totalled $69,540.40, of which $24,540.40 was the county’s share for the Family Planning Clinic operated by the Cape May County Health Department. New amounts budgeted for increases in excess of 10 per cent of 1980 expenditures for public utilities and fuel oils were $25,864. "THE LAWS AMENDING THE ‘CAP’ regulation were sensible and practical and took into consideration the difficulties county government is having with increased energy costs and inflation," Sturm said. "HOWEVER," he went on, the board of freeholders and all other county boards of freeholders in New Jersey are incensed over the escheating of the revenue derived from the bank corporation business tax by the State of New Jersey." In Cape May County this revenue wold be $89,835 in 1981. Sturm said this reflects the "insensitivity" of the Byrne ad-

Counties.
