Their first album (Epic) shows a. knack for writing infectious tunes that are the perfect showcase for Wendy Wu's spirited vocals. A sameness in the production detracts a bit,^. overall, The Photos sh^ a lot of promise. CATFISH HODGE has been banging out his blues and rock for over a decade, and, although he has a strong cult following, he’s yet to make a dent in the charts. “Bout With The Blues’’ (Adelphi), .will do little to change that, even though this (ri. a solid record. Moet of this albuih is simple, Btraight-forward blues. Catfish Hodge’s raw, gutsy voice is certainly expressive, but this style gets HtUe airplay, which will result in his small, loyal following being pleased and the masses totally unaware this album was even recorded. JOE KING CARRASCO is one of the latest critic favorites, and, unlike a good many who are hyped to death, Carrasco deserves every word of praise. His new album on Hannibal/Antilles moves along at a brisk pace with its country inspired rockers. Having paid his dues in countless Mexican dance bands, Carrasco is aware of that culture along with what he heard growing up in Texas. He’s got a pleasing voice and a great bandespecially Kris Cummings on organ. We’re going to hear a lot from this boy.
