The state network will premiere a new, six-part series at 9:30 p.m. Monday, called "New Jersey Outdoors," featuring the state’s rich divenlty of natural resources. Actor Gary Merrill narrates an introduction to the series, scheduled for UHF channels 23,50,52 and 58. IN “A SENSE of Value,” the series' opening program, Merrill provides an overview of the state inits four seasons, from the Atlantic shore to the Appalachian Mountains. Time-lapse segments emphasize the natural beauty found in the most densely populated of all the United States. Hosted by Paul D. (Pete) McLain, Deputy Director of the New Jersey Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife, "New Jersey Outdoors” takes viewers through the length and breadth of the state, focusing on fishing, hunting and hiking areas of particular worth, as well as providing information and instruction for novice outdoors persons. McLAIN, ALONG with other experts, is shown in the series’ third episode instructing youngsters in the fundamentals of fishing for bass, trout, pan-fish, stripers and catfish, as well as surf-casting. "Take A Kid Fishing” is scheduled for broadcast on Monday, May 11, the day before National Take A Kid Fishing Week begins. Heralding the return of

The program, scheduled for May 25, is called "Marie.” FOR THE NEXT installment, Shaffer changes gear — from fishing to hiking — for “A Few Miles of History," encouraging New Jerseyans not only to enjoy the beauty of the Appalachian Trail, across northwestern New Jersey, but to hike along one of the most famous trails in the United States.
