S^uih Phila. Alumni, Gathering Sunday
Last year, a new organization was born in Cape May County when five people gathered at Raymond Talbot’s home in Ocean City to discuss the feasibility of getting together the nearly 500 people In the South Jersey Shore who once attended South PhiUy High School. Some 30 former students of the school, accompanied by spouses, relatives and friends, attended the first event, a brunch, in Ocean City. The next gathering saw about 5b former students along with spouses at a picnic in September at the County Park in Court House THE GROUP’S next event is scheduled for 1 p m.. May 3, at the Crab Trap in Somers Point. The South Jersey Shore Chapter of South Philadelphia High School Alumni is the first chapter established outside the city area. Some other chapters are now forming, notably one in Washington,'D.C., and one in the area of Los angeles and San Diego, but Cape May County's chapter was the first in the entire country.
THERE ARE MANY famous people who once attended the school. Just as thepeople who are attending these local events, not all of the noted singers and dancers, doctors and lawyers, judges and chemists and others, went the full four ye^rs to South Philly High. Joey Bishop comes to mind as an example. Anyone who attended the High School for any length of time will be welcome to share in the fun. There will be door prizes, dancing and some short speeches from some local celebrities, including Bill Escher, who is the president of th^teneral alumni group^ in Philadelphia. Also planning to attend are Wildwood Mayor Guy Muziani, and restaurant owner Arnold Orsatti of Atlantic City.
