I feel sort of out of touch with ftahing because my hoatta not ready yet. and I have still to wet a line here on the Jersey Cape. The news seems to be good on Boston Mackerel (with some reservations. . , . . 1 was talking to Boh Toft up at the vocational school, fcnd he said that he and Hans (his son) had al they wanted about two 4o three miles inside the Sea Isle Lump, and frbm all reports the Cape May party boats have been do-, ing relatively well on those “Bostons. ... CPT. HI THOMPSON said he had a good pick on urn and a good catch out near the Northeast End but doesn’t hold out much hope for a long mackerel seadU. becaus#he's already seen some bluefish. Cpt. Hi, who runs the Big Jim II on alternate days, says he will be trying the Bay soon for drum and big weakfish On Thursday. Cpt. Jim Cicchltti had a good catch on the Starlight up near the Sea Isle Lump; and as he and Cpt. Uu Hauboiy were talking they were both planning on going up near Sea Isle. ITS ANYBODY'S GUESS, but it seems like thespread ol mackerel are already showing up North o( us There is a feeling that the best ol the mackerel season is behind us but maybe there will be one more big school show up yet from the South The westerly winds this pas'week have probably moved those macks oftshoce. but hopefully they'll be back. Then the boats can effectively fish them Tlie real big news though, is that it won t be long till drum and weakfish start biting. I was In ''Buiiy' Chew's Fish Hook seafood market, and he had five drum, and a boxfull of big weakfish that "Rich James said had been netted off of Peirces Point. That made a total of nine nettwl fish taken in at that location. “Randy" Laudeman also confirmed that he’d been getting some real nice weakfish in his nets and one 80 lb. drum off Town Bank; and Ralpn Knisell had picturein the Anglers News of a drum and two weakfish that had been taken on hook and line up in the Maurice River - so it shouldn't be too long before we hear of the first big drum being caught. . LOU ROD1 AS OFFERING A PRIZE in the Cduntycon test, so be sure and register your catch. Bob Hand, a^dtime drummer, was telling me Friday night at my wire s retirement dinner at the Wildwood Golf club, that Jackie Tomlin was drift netting drum up the Bay. and he’d gotten 13 humpbacks in one haul. Bob and I are getting anxious to

get out there.

Before I forget it, my old friend Charlie Zalmes was in Wednesday telling me that he’s going to open a tackle shop and boat livery called the Anglers Roost up in Margate, right near Captain Andy's Marina. Charlie published the Anglers News, but he sold it last year, and decided to go into the fishing tackle business along with

boat rentals. Best of luck, Charlie!

BIG WEAKFISH ARE BEING TAKEN. I heard of three big weakies being takqn off Cape May Point Jetties last week. Confirmation on this came from Joey Rodla at Rodia’s Tackle in Rio Grande. Joey said he weighed in nine weakfish from the jetties on Thursday and five on Friday. Jim Wallace’s wife at Jim’s Bait and Tackle said they had a customer that had seen 15 weakies taken off of a Point jetty, but they hadn’t weighed any in yet. Steve Seggern at South Jersey Fishing Center hadn't weighed
