Fever Soccer Camp Set for Jersey Cape

Volunteers Wanted For Interviews

COURT HOUSE - The County Library and other agencies in the county are attempting to produce a slide-tape history of the local scallop fishing industry. Volunteers are needed to help in the oral history portion of the project.

Volunteers will be trained in interviewing techniques and will,be provided with the equipment necessary to fulfill their tasks. Those interested can leave their names and telephone numbers at the • main desk of the library.

ERMA - The Philadelphia Fever is sponsoring a one-week soccer camp for boys and girls ages 6-17 at Lower Cape May Regional High School here July 13-17. , "The Fever wants to get /kit into the community and “nave the community identify with and accept both the coaches and players. We want to gain their support and hopefully see them at the Spectrum next season.” saifl Fever assistant coach Richie Sheridan, who is taking his 10 years of experience in soccer camps and putting them to work for the Fever as one of the camps’ directors. JOINING HIM will be Skip Roderick, the Fever’s interim coach and radioTV color commentator. Both Sheridan and Roderick have coached on the college level and aiV both United States Soccer Federation "A” licensed coaches. The five day-long sessions will Include two» instructional periods, exercise periods, games, films and a lunch break, all packed into the hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The childi*en . will be separated into age groups. "Kids having trouble competing in their assigned group, should

ALONG WITH THE expertise of Sheridan and Roderick, the campers will be given top notch instruc- • tion from among some of the Fever’s top players including MISL All-Stars Joej Fink, Doc Lawson and Keith Van Eron; high scoring forwards Dave Mac> Williams and Louie Nanchoff; local favorites Ed Sheridan, Woody Hartman and George Lesyw; Fever standout in goal Ardo Perri. The children will be required to bring with them: Swcer shoes, sneakers or training shoes, shorts, soccer shirts or T-shirts, lunch and a willingness to learn. The tuition for the camps varies depending on the site. Each camper will receive a soccer ball, a Fever T-shirt, two tickets to the 1961-82 Fever Home Opener, camp awards and refreshments. The LCMR camp is the only one in Cape May County.

Sports Fishing Cen-ter Opens to Applause

by Jack Chielli AVALON - The long awaited opening of the new ‘Avalon Sports Fishing Center at 14th and Ocean Dr. took place April 18, when Mayor Ellsworth Armacost cut the ribbon to the applause of onlookers. "I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Council President Philip Judyski and Major Russell Wheatley and all of the committee members who waited one and a half years

for this to happen,” the mayor commented. "It’s one of the best things to

The entire project is supposed to pay for itself in eight years. After that time, revenue from the slip rentals and tackle shop rent will go to the borough. Dune Grass

SEA ISLE CITY - In cooperation with the U S. Department of Agriculture and the State of New Jersey, the city will be fertilizing the dune grass on the dunes, starting May 4, according to Mayor Dominic Raffa. Raffa noted that low flying planes will drop fertilizer pellets on the dunes from 1st to 34th SI., 57th to 60th St. and from 81st St. to Townsends Inlet during the week, starting at 7 a.m. weather permitting. "RESIDENTS SHOULD avoid the dune-area during this period,” the mayor noted. "This program is designed to feed the dune grass that helps keep our dunes in place." The project will oust an estimated $5,180, half of which will be paid for by the state.
